Frequently asked questions

What is the Guangzhou International Commercial Port? +

A strategic trade megaproject in Huadu District, next to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Officially positioned as a "super gateway for quality Chinese goods to reach the world and the preferred bridgehead for global products entering China," it broke ground on October 8, 2026, with a planned area of 9.86 km² and total construction of about 14.5 million m².

When will the Guangzhou International Commercial Port open? +

The commercial core zone — a ¥32.5 billion, 3.2-million-m² first phase — is planned to open in 2028. The official rhythm is "take off in one year, see results in three, take shape in five."

Is it the same as the Port of Guangzhou? +

No. The Port of Guangzhou is the city's seaport. The Guangzhou International Commercial Port is a separate land-based wholesale trade and exhibition complex in Huadu District near the airport. It is also different from the "Guangzhou International Port" rail-freight hub in Baiyun District's Datian area.

How is it related to the Canton Fair? +

Officials describe it as a "never-ending Canton Fair": it extends the fair's exhibition-and-trade model into a permanent, year-round trading city. The site is about 45 minutes from the Canton Fair complex in Pazhou.

Can foreign buyers lease space there? +

Leasing began during preparation: by September 2026 over 200 companies had been approached, 103 signed letters of intent, and 300,000+ m² of space was requested. Reported first-phase incentives include up to 20-year leases and up to 24 months rent-free. Terms evolve — verify with the operator, Guangzhou International Commercial Port Group.

Is this website affiliated with the project? +

No. Canton Market is an independent third-party information platform, not affiliated with the Guangzhou International Commercial Port Group, the Guangzhou government, or the Canton Fair organizers.
